Crystal hops were first bred in the US as a domestic substitute for Hallertau Mittelfruh. It has a mild, sweet character with notes of flowers, spice, cinnamon and black pepper. Higher concentrations can also contribute suggestions of citrus peel and dried lemongrass. Crystal hops are not only suited to continental lagers, wheat beers and Belgian ales but they are also successful in IPA’s.
